Description

The anime "86" (2021) is adapted from the light novel of the same name originally written by Asato Asato and illustrated by Shirabii. It is produced by A-1 Pictures ("Sword Art Online" series, "Kaguya‑sama: Love Is War" series) and broadcasted from April 2021. It tells the story of Shin, the leader of the 86 Spearhead squadron of the Republic of San Magnolia, and Lena, the eldest daughter of a prestigious family who inherited the pure blood of the Alba, nicknamed Queen of Blood. The Republic of San Magnolia is subjected to daily aggression by the Legion, the autonomous mechanized weapon of the neighboring Empire. Fortunately, the Republic has also successfully managed to develop the same type of weapon to counter its attack, and barely manages to neutralize the threat from the neighboring countries without any casualties. It's true that there were no casualties on the surface, but the actual casualties were not zero. Outside the 85th district of the Republic, there is an 86th district, where young children who have been branded with the 86 mark pilot "manned autonomous machines" and fight day and night. As an 86, Shin, hides a cruel secret in his body. He is also known as "Undertaker" in the military. The elite, Lena, a military officer, is transferred to the "Spearhead" squadron where Shin belongs to by chance. The meeting and separation of young Shin who leads the young soldier to war and the commander Lena who commands the battle through the machines in the distant rear, accompanied by a heroic yet sad battle, kicks off here... The anime "86" is directed by Toshimasa Ishii who is known for "The Promised Neverland". The original light novel "86" was awarded the grand prize at the 23rd Dengeki Novel Prize award. The ending theme of the anime "Avid" and "Hands Up to the Sky" were composed and arranged by Hiroyuki Sawano, who has contributed to the soundtracks of "Attack on Titan", "Mobile Suit Gundam", and "Guilty Crown".
